On Wednesday August 31, 2016 at approximately 0743 hrs., Officers from Lancaster City Bureau of Police responded to a residence on the 300 blk. E. Frederick St. for a report of an animal attack.
Officers were told that when one of the occupants opened the door to leave an unknown, unattended pit bull type dog entered the home. The dog attacked a 9 year old resident of the home. Officers were told that the family dog then attacked the stray dog and that an adult present at the home was able to eventually intervene and pull the stray dog off of the victim. The stray dog then ran from the scene, last observed running north toward Liberty St.
The dog was described as a pit bull type of dog, muscular body type, unknown if male or female, brown in color with white on the area of the face, chest and part of the front legs. The dog has not been located and is presumed to be at large.
The child victim suffered severe injuries to the area of the head as a result of the dog bites. After initial assessment and treatment at a local hospital, the child was transported to Hershey Medical Center for additional medical treatment.
The information about the incident was forwarded to Bureau's Dog Law Enforcement (DLE) Yadira Garcia. She conducted multiple follow-ups at residences in the area that had dogs that were similar in description, that reside in the same area where the attack occurred. None of the dogs inspected by DLE Garcia matched the description provided by the victim's family. At this time, the dog and the owner have not been found or identified.
