Yesterday, at approximately 6:07 pm, Lancaster City Police officers and firefighters responded to a report of a male lying on the sidewalk, bleeding from the neck, on the 0 block of N Duke St. Officers Leyland and Hockley were the initial responders on scene and immediately administered first aid by identifying the wound and applying pressure. By the time Lancaster City firefighters arrived, the individual had already experienced considerable blood loss. However, the situation was stabilized due to the combined efforts of the Lancaster City Police and Fire. Responders could not get a specific ETA on EMS so the decision was made to transport the subject in a police vehicle. Sergeant Smith drove while firefighter, Vinny Augeri, actively applied pressure to the subject’s injuries until they arrived at the hospital. The patient has since been listed as "stable" and receiving treatment in the ICU.
The scene was held until it was determined via Lancaster Safety Coalition footage that the subject had suffered from self-inflicted wounds and was not assaulted by anyone else.
This individual’s life was saved thanks to the remarkable teamwork and swift actions of the Lancaster City Police and Fire! Great work all around!
