Recovery Day Lancaster is virtual on Sept. 19
Recovery Day Lancaster promotes a celebration of healing and helps to normalize addiction recovery as a healthy and contributing factor towards a strong community. Recovery is more sustainable in a welcoming and supportive environment.
This annual event, which started in 2014, sponsored by the Lancaster County Recovery Alliance, normally takes place at a city park in a fun picnic-like atmosphere. This year, like many other events and programs, it has moved online.
Tune in to Facebook where this shared experience will be streamed live from two Locations on Facebook, including @TheCulturedProfessional and a watch party at @LancCoPARecoveryAlliance from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The no-commute event means that you can take part in this video program from the comfort of your home, halfway house, office, car, or wherever, while keeping your recovery from addiction disorders alive and healthy. Recovering people, their families, and people interested in addiction and recovery topics are welcome to view and share the event.
This year’s virtual event has the familiar activities – the Run/Walk for Recovery; music from Central PA musicians, some of whom are in recovery themselves; Lancaster’s largest virtual Serenity Circle, stories of hope and healing, – along with some new twists invented by its organizers.
Scheduled musical performances include Bernard Sarkissian, Camela Widad, Leo DiSanto and Brian Copperthite.
Retreat Behavioral Health edited the video content, which will be streamed by The Cultured Professional (TCP), streamed through its Facebook (40K reach) page. TCP will also host a live Recovery Roundtable discussion to include people in long-term recovery and their family members, many of whom work in the addiction field. The Roundtable will address aspects of a recovery-oriented community and how viewers can accelerate acceptance of those affected by addiction disorders and their families.
The alliance has been encouraging its supporters to participate in a first-time-ever virtual 5K Run/Walk for Recovery any time before Sept. 19, and the closing ceremony will acknowledge everyone who exercised in the hot summer weather to honor the addiction recovery process. Planning committee member Jasmine Heisey oversaw the virtual run walk and held weekly heats all summer long throughout Lancaster County for people to run together.
Sponsors include Retreat Behavioral Health, Penn Medicine LGH, PreformCare, Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital, Lancaster County Joining Forces, Listrak, Recovery Centers of America, WellSpan Addiction Services, White Deer Run Treatment Centers.
