To the residents of West Lampeter Township,
As Chief of Police for the West Lampeter Township Police Department, I want to extend my sincerest condolences to the family of Mr. George Floyd. As a police officer with over 30 years of law enforcement experience in this County, I am appalled at the shocking and shameful actions of the officers who caused the death of Mr. Floyd. The actions of those officers do not portray the level of professionalism, training and humanity that we expect from our officers. I have discussed with my officers the acts perpetrated against Mr. Floyd and I can assure you that no one supports those officers or what they did. All of the West Lampeter Township Police Officers wholeheartedly condemn the senseless and criminal acts perpetrated against Mr. Floyd by the responsible officers. We believe any offending officer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Quite frankly, there is no room in this profession for anyone who would commit such heinous acts, nor is there any room for anyone who supports their criminal actions.
We have taken an oath to protect the rights of every citizen, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation. We do our best to ensure our officers treat others the way they would want their family members treated and we continue to instill this in our officers. We are proud that we have worked hard with our community to form a strong, working relationship. We will continue to cultivate that relationship and improve upon it.
I have spoken with our officers, members of the community, and the Lancaster Branch of the NAACP. We understand that our country is hurting right now and people want their voices to be heard. We acknowledge that, as police officers, we must admit failures within our profession when they occur. These unacceptable actions tarnish the reputation that the overwhelming majority of police officers strive so hard to improve upon.
The West Lampeter Township Police Department is committed to working with our community, every aspect of it, to help heal our communities.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Brian Wiczkowski
Chief of Police
