On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at about 01:36 AM, officers from the West Hempfield Township Police Department were dispatched to 2010 Oswego Drive, Columbia, Pa 17512, West Hempfield Township, for a theft that had just occurred.
The victim reported to police that the defendant, 41 year old Thor Sherman, of 940 Indian Springs Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601, was captured on surveillance video attempting to open the back door of the victim's residence. The victim and his family were woken up by their security alarm. The victim reported that he also observed a white cargo van leave the area after his alarm sounded. The victim told police that the defendant was a friend.
Additionally the victim reported that the defendant, attempted to remove two mopeds, from his property, which were valued at $150.00 each. The victim reported that the defendant removed them from the rear of the residence and had pushed them to the roadside curb area before fleeing the scene.
On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, the West Hempfield Township Police Department filed the following charges against Sherman at MDJ Miles Bixler's Office in Columbia, PA; One count of criminal attempt (Burglary section 3502 a ii) (F-1); One count of Criminal Trespass, section 3503, 1 II, (F-3); and One count of Theft by unlawful taking or disposition, section 3921 A (M-2).
Continuing on the same date, MDJ Miles Bixler issued a warrant for the defendant's arrest.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
