On Monday, June 3, 2019 at 1643 hrs; West Hempfield Township Police and several local fire departments responded to Rt 30 east at Hill Street in Mountville Borough for a reported vehicle crash.
It was reported that a crane had struck the overpass and large pieces of concrete were thrown onto the roadway and other passing vehicles.
Officers arrived and learned that Ethan Spies (23) of Elizabethtown was operating a 2003 Peterbilt tractor trailer with a JLG lift on the flatbed. For unknown reasons, the lift had raised during the transport and while the truck went under the Hill Street overpass, the lift struck the concrete bridge.
Large pieces of concrete damaged 3 vehicles traveling on Rt 30.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
PennDot officials responded to the scene to inspect the bridge and will make necessary repairs. The roadway was opened to traffic after the inspection.
Spies was charged with “Securing Loads in Vehicles”.
Spies is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
