Description

West Earl Township, Pa – The West Earl Township Police Department arrested James Stoltzfus (18 YOA) from New Holland, PA, and Moriah Lapp (18 YOA) from Morgantown, PA after being caught vandalizing the Miley Road Route 222 overpass bridge. 

On April 20, 2023, at approximately 10:00 PM, the West Earl Township Police Department was dispatched to the Route 222 overpass on Miley Road for a report of vandalism in progress. The caller reporting the vandalism reported two individuals spray painting graffiti on the overpass. Upon Detective Joshua Mertz’s arrival two individuals entered a 2010 Hyundai and attempted to drive away. Detective Mertz stopped the vehicle which was occupied by James Stoltzfus and Moriah Lapp. Both subjects admitted that they had just spray painted the overpass and identified the images they had spray painted. Detective Mertz placed both subjects under arrest.

Both subjects were transported to the West Earl Township Police Department where they were processed and released. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation estimated the damages to be $2,235.36. Detective Mertz filed Criminal Mischief charges against both Lapp and Stoltzfus. Officer Jeremy Sorensen assisted with the investigation.

This location is frequently the sight for illegal activities including criminal mischief to the overpass, illegal dumping, and illegal drug activity. West Earl Police Department has increased our patrol of the area in response to the incidents of vandalism to the bridge and roadway. The public and media are reminded that all criminal charges are merely accusations, and all subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
