Juvenile Bicyclist struck by Hit and Run Driver

The Southern Regional Police Department is continuing to investigate a hit and run crash which injured a local 14 year old male from Hamels Court in Willow Street.  The incident occurred on 10/14/17 at approx. 7:30 PM in the 300 Blk. of Millwood Rd. between Long Ln. and Shultz Rd. in Pequea Twp. Two juvenile males were riding bicycles without lighting north bound on Millwood Rd. along the roadway.  A passerby stopped and provided one of the males with two lights so they would be visible. He advised them he could not see them and was concerned for their safety.  One juvenile pulled off onto the right shoulder and received the lights.  He yelled to his friend, who was still riding in the south bound lane, to return to him and get a light.  A north bound vehicle swerved around the juvenile with the lights on the right shoulder and struck the juvenile bicyclist in the south bound travel lane.

The striking vehicle is described as a black sedan, possibly a Chevy Impala or similar vehicle, and will have front end damage.  The driver was a white male with long hair and a beanie.  The vehicle initially stopped and the driver gave a blanket to the injured male.  The driver then returned to his vehicle and drove away north bound on Millwood Rd. The juvenile suffered serious injuries and was transported by EMS to the hospital.

Officers are reviewing area surveillance footage in hopes to obtain more info on the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Burger at the Southern Regional Police Department at 717-872-0352.  Anonymous tips can be left at www.slcrpd.org
