On 10/24/17 the SRPD received dash cam video taken by a civilian who observed reckless driving at a bus stop. The incident occurred on 10/23/17 at approx. 3:00 PM on Marticville Rd. (route 324) at Kay Dr. in Pequea Twp. The video shows the recording driver traveling south bound on Marticville Rd. as he slows down and stops for a school bus which was approaching from the opposite direction which had its yellow, and then red lights activated. A gray Chevy Sedan which had been following the recording vehicle originally stops behind him, and then passes him on the right while traveling off the roadway in the grass and then travels back onto the roadway and past the bus which had its red lights activated and was dropping off a student. The Chevy continues south on Marticville Rd. and is seen pulling into a driveway approx. 1/2 mile away in the 100 Blk. of Marticville Rd. The video was turned over to the police along with a description of the driver of the Chevy.
Police later located the vehicle and confirmed the owner was the driver at the time of the incident. It was also confirmed that he did live at the address less than 1/2 mile from the scene of the incident. The driver was Raymond G. Hylton, 50 from the 100 Blk. of Marticville Rd., Pequea Twp. He admitted to the violations in detail and had no excuse for his actions.
After discussion with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, Hylton was charged with the following:
Meeting or Overtaking School Bus - $384.00 fine/cost - 5 points - 60 day drivers license suspension
Overtaking Vehicle On Right - $90.00 fine/cost - 3 points
Reckless Driving - $265.00 fine/cost - no points - 6 month drivers license suspension
Charges filed by Chief John Michener
All suspects innocent until proven guilty
The SRPD would like to thank the civilian for providing the video and assisting in the investigation which led to these charges. We ask that all drivers please slow down and drive with caution around bus stops and school buses. This incredibly heinous and reckless driving will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.
