On September 23, 2018 at approximately 7:35 pm, Officer Cheryl Thompson responded to an accident at the intersection of S. Church Street and W. Fourth Street. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the driver of the one vehicle fled the accident scene with his 12-year-old son, who was with him in the vehicle during the crash. There were no injuries as a result of the crash. However, when Officer Thompson later confronted Robert Kennedy about leaving the accident scene, he admitted that he fled because he had outstanding warrants. Kennedy also encouraged his 12-year-old son to tell the police officer that the light was green when Kennedy was traveling through the intersection that resulted in the crash. An independent witness confirmed that the light was red when Kennedy entered the intersection, supporting the testimony of the other driver involved in the crash. As a result of the accident investigation, Officer Thompson charged Kennedy with Corruption of Minors, a Misdemeanor of the 1st degree, along with fleeing the scene of an accident and a red-light violation. He will be summoned before MDJ Stuart Mylin to answer to these charges. He was taken into custody at that time on the outstanding warrants.
All persons charged are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
