BEWARE OF SCAM EMAILS

This week the Pequea Township Police Department has received multiple reports of scam emails being sent to area residents.  The emails allege that the sender hacked into the recipient's computer and recorded videos from their webcam.  They threaten to send the unflattering video to the recipient's social media contacts, relatives and friends unless they send money either by a wire service or bitcoin.  The email may even contain the recipient's password as proof that the recipient's computer was hacked. DON'T REPLY, DON'T SEND ANYTHING, DELETE THE MESSAGE.  Passwords may be leaked during security breaches and could be available for purchase on the dark web.  This is yet another reason to periodically change your passwords.
