On 9/20/16 at approx. 7:30 PM the Southern Regional Police Department, along with local Fire and EMS, were dispatched to a crash with injuries on Willow Street Pike South (Rt. 272) at West Willow Rd. in Pequea Twp. Initial reports indicated a vehicle had rolled multiple times and the occupant was ejected and laying on the road unresponsive. The investigation revealed that a 2005 Acura Sedan was being operated by Daniel Sapp, 21 years old from the 200 Blk. of Shultz Rd. in Lancaster. Sapp's vehicle was south bound on Willow Street Pike. A 2004 Chevy Sedan operated by Michael Klase, 59, with a passenger, Dottie Klase, 63, both from the 100 Blk. of West Willow Rd., Willow Street was also southbound. Sapp's vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed in the right lane. Klase slowed to make a right turn onto West Willow Rd. at which point Sapp's vehicle began to pass him on the right shoulder. The Drivers side of Sapp's vehicle struck the front passenger side of Klase's vehicle causing Sapp's vehicle to spin sideways. Sapp's vehicle left the right side of the roadway, rolled over multiple times and came to rest approx. 465 feet away from the initial impact point. Sapp, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the right lane of Willow Street Pike. He was transported by EMS to LGH where he remains in critical condition. The Klase's suffered minor injuries. The roadway was closed until approx. 10:00 PM while the crash was investigated. The SRPD was assisted on the scene by members of the West Willow Volunteer Fire Co. along with Fire Police from the Willow Street and New Danville Fire Companies.
