Arrested - 17 year old male from Conestoga
On 8/29/17 at approx. 5:50 AM the Southern Regional Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Church Rd. and Run Valley Rd. in Pequea Twp. to check the welfare of a male subject lying on the roadway. As the officer was pulling up they observed a vehicle turning onto Church Rd. headed towards the male who was laying in the north bound travel lane wearing dark clothing and barely visible. The officer quickly drove across the travel lane in front of the vehicle to prevent the male from being struck.
The lone officer approached the male and found him to be asleep approx. three feet from the shoulder on the paved roadway. After waking the male he stood up and the officer found the male had been lying on a small loaded handgun. The male was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search incident to arrest revealed several small baggies of marijuana, a pipe used to smoke marijuana, a syringe, a baggy of several prescription pills and two small packages of suspected heroin. The juvenile had a backpack which contained a machete, a small hatchet, approx. 125 rounds of handgun ammunition and a small homemade device manufactured to fire a single round of ammo at a time. The device commonly referred to as a “zip gun” was built using small pipe and a spring mechanism which has a firing pin. When released the pin strikes the bullet and the round is fired.
The male was charged with the following:
Firearms not to be carried without a license – Felony
Possession of a firearm by minor – Misdemeanor
Prohibited Offensive Weapon – Misdemeanor
Possession Small Amount Marijuana – Misdemeanor
Possession Drug Paraphernalia – Misdemeanor
Possession Controlled Substance – Misdemeanor
The male was transported to the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center and Detained.
