NLCRPD was dispatched to the intersection of North Penryn Road and West Newport Road, Penn Township, at 1020 hours for the report of a two-vehicle crash with no injuries blocking the intersection. The involved parties were identified as a FEMALE - JUVENILE, age 17, of Paradise, who was operating a Volkswagen Beetle and CAROLYN L. WRIGHT, age 68, of 1500 block of Locust Grove Road, Manheim, who was operating a Toyota Camry

Arriving NLCRPD patrol officers observed a green Volkswagen Beetle with substantial front end damage and was facing east on Newport Road in the middle of the intersection. There was also a gray Toyota Camry with disabling damage to the driver’s side door and was in the west bound lane of Newport Road just west of the intersection.

Both drivers were out of their vehicles and both stated they were not in need of any medical treatment. WRIGHT stated she was driving north on North Penryn Road, came to the stop sign, stopped and proceeded west onto West Newport Road. She stated that once in the intersection she saw a green Volkswagen Beetle approaching the intersection on West Newport Road traveling west. She stated the Volkswagen struck her vehicle on the driver’s side. The operator of the Volkswagen stated that she was unfamiliar with the roadway and did not see the stop sign on West Newport Road. She stated by the time she saw the Toyota it was too late for her to stop. She stated her approximate speed at the time of the crash was 40 mph. The juvenile female driver of the Volkswagen was cited for failing to stop at a posted stop sign (Title 75 Section 3323 B) because of the crash.
