Caller reports he advised that he wanted to report a scam. Victim advised that he purchased two thousand dollars’ worth of gift cards and supplied the numbers to a male subject over the phone. Victim advised that prior to purchasing the gift cards he was using his home computer and it was not working properly and went online and retrieved a phone number for Microsoft and called the number. Victim advised that he spoke to a male subject with accent and instructions were given to Leonard on how to download software so the male could help with the computer problem. Caller advised that the male subject gained access to his computer and advised Victim that he had child pornography on his computer and needed to purchase gift cards and once the gift cards are purchased and the number on the back of the gift cards are given the male subject was going to get rid of the child pornography. Victim advised that after he gave the male subject the gift card number, he realized that he was being scammed. Victim was advised that he was scammed, and he was advised to stop all communications with the male subject. NLCRPD advised Victim to call his banking institution and close his account. Victim was also advised to close any other credit or debit cards.
