A 23-year-old man is in custody regarding the Monday night shooting of a man in Penn Township.
UPDATE: Shawn Darionne Bergman is now charged with homicide because the victim died Wednesday night just before midnight. The victim was shot in the face at an apartment in the 400 block of South Main Street.
The victim, a 19-year-old Warwick Township man, was pronounced dead Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. at a Philadelphia hospital.
Bergman was taken into custody early Tuesday afternoon at a location in Manheim. Manheim Borough police assisted Northern Lancaster County Regional police with the arrest.
Northern Lancaster County Regional police Detective Theresa Stauffer filed charges Tuesday morning and added a charge of homicide Thursday afternoon, with approval from Assistant District Attorney Christine L. Wilson.
Detective Stauffer also charged Bergman with stealing a 9mm pistol from a relative on Monday. The pistol is believed to have been used in the shooting.
There were multiple witnesses to the shooting. One of the witnesses called 911 and went with police to the apartment to indicate where the shooting happened.
Bergman pulled a pistol, pointed it at the victim and eventually fired, the witnesses told police.
When police arrived, the victim was slumped over onto a couch. He was struggling to breathe and had obvious head trauma consistent with a gunshot wound.
Bergman is presumed innocent.
