Officers received numerous theft from vehicle reports that occurred overnight between December 20-22, 2019 in the Mountville area and then again December 23-24, 2019 in the Valley Drive, Lancaster area. At least twenty-two vehicles were entered and some had money taken and others were just entered. Two vehicles had damage to them as a result of the entries. Officer Pete Papadopoulos was one of the Officers that took a report of a theft from vehicle. He received video surveillance from one of the residents in the Valley Drive area and another Officer received video surveillance from the Mountville area theft from vehicles. The video from Valley Drive was posted to Manor Township's Facebook Page and it was also sent out to other area Officers. Positive identification was made of the subjects in the video from a Officer of West Hempfield Township Police who received the video via email. Police then got a report that the actors in the video were on Centerville Road in East Hempfield Township. Officers identified the three actors on Centerville Road. Officer Papadopoulos later conducted interviews and based on his investigation, he charged Kyle E. Smith,18, Mountville with twenty-two counts of theft from vehicles, two counts of conspiracy to commit theft from vehicle, two counts of criminal mischief, and two counts of loitering and prowling at night. The amount of money Smith obtained was less than $200. The damage to the two vehicles was estimated at about $500. The investigation is on-going as there were juveniles involved in the thefts as well.
