On Wednesday, May 6, 2020 Officer Pete Papadopoulos investigated an incident involving Matthew Espenshade, 47, Middletown. The incident involved Espenshade being charged with harassment after he texted the victim numerous times. Then on Friday, July 25, 2020 this same Officer received an email from the victim stating that Espenshade was contacting her and her mother again. The victim is an ex-girlfriend of Espenshade. on Saturday, July 26, 2020 Officer Papadopoulos met with the victim and she reported she changed her cell phone number to avoid being contacted. Espenshade obtained her new phone number and continued to call her and leave voicemails. The victim's mother also received text messages. Between both the females cell phones Espenshade left 29 text messages between June 16-July 25, 2020. The other phone had approximately 100 voice messages on it between May 30-July 25, 2020. Officer Papadopoulos also learned that Espenshade sent two cards and one letter via the United States Postal Service as well between Jun and July of 2020. The Officer charged Espenshade with Stalking and Harassment and obtained a warrant. Espenshade was picked up on the warrant at his home. He was then turned over to Manor Township Police and Officers took him to the Lancaster County Prison for arraignment on the charges. His bail was set at $35,000 cash and he was unable to post bail and was committed to prison.
