School Crossing Guard Struck by Vehicle at Crossing Post

LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD patrol function investigated a crash involving an adult school crossing guard who was struck by a vehicle. The crash occurred on 10/14/2021 around 7:54 AM at the intersection of East Front Street and North Cedar Street, which is the location of the crossing post assigned to the adult crossing guard.

The adult school crossing guard, identified as Debra A. FOX, age 69, of Lititz, was wearing her high-visibility fluorescent vest and was crossing the intersection in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle turning left onto North Cedar Street from East Front Street. The driver of the striking vehicle is identified as Daria MCBROOM, age 42, of Lititz. MCBROOM's vehicle contained a juvenile passenger who is not being identified due to their age. Neither MCBROOM nor the juvenile passenger were injured as a result of the crash.

FOX sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance from the scene for appropriate hospital-based care.

A summary traffic citation has been filed against MCBROOM, alleging she committed a violation of the PA Vehicle Code, section  titled Right-of-Way of Pedestrians in Crosswalks. MCBROOM has been summoned to respond to District Court in Lititz.

There were no students being crossed or present in the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

MCBROOM is presumed innocent.
