LITITZ BOROUGH - The LBPD patrol function received information about a scam attempt. The reporting person, an adult male, received an email from an account that purported to be sent from his employer. The scammer asked the reporting person to obtain $2,400 worth of gift cards for an upcoming employee recognition program. The reporting person did, believing the email sender to actually be their employer. Upon obtaining the gift cards, the scammer asked the reporting person to scratch the back of them and send the activation codes, which caused the reporting person to become suspicious. The reporting person then contacted their actual employer through a known telephone number. The employer confirmed they did not send the email. No information was ultimately provided to the scammer that would have allowed them to use the gift cards.
