On Tuesday 23 October 2018 at approximately 1440 hrs. a call was received for a robbery in-progress at Smithgall's pharmacy, 536 W. Lemon St.. The initial information was given to emergency dispatchers from an alarm company. While Officers from Platoon D were en-route, additional information was provided that an armed robbery suspect had been shot by a clerk inside the business. There was preliminary information that there were (2) suspects involved in the robbery.
When Officers arrived at the scene they found the suspect that had been shot outside of the business but in relative close proximity to the scene. That suspect had multiple gunshot wounds. That suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The condition of that suspect has not been updated as of the time of this release.
A second suspect, described only as an unknown male dressed in black, fled the scene in an unknown direction of travel.
Officers made contact with people inside the business and confirmed that all suspects had fled and that shots had been fired at one of suspects. A handgun that had been possessed by a suspect was recovered at the scene as well as the handgun used by the clerk inside the business. Detectives and Evidence Techs also responded to the scene. Witnesses are being interviewed. Officers and Detectives are canvassing the area for additional witnesses, evidence and potential video evidence that may have been captured by private surveillance systems.
A second ambulance had been summoned to the scene for a person that had been inside the business at the time of the robbery. The reason for that ambulance has not been disclosed other than that it was not for a gun shot wound.
Detectives are investigating this as a targeted robbery of a commercial entity. While there is a second suspect at large, it is not believed that there is a danger to the public.
