HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - 764 HIGH STREET UPDATED RELEASE - ARREST OF HOMICIDE SUSPECT

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE INFORMATION -

On February 10, 2018, at approximately 1:17 AM, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to O'Halloran's bar for a fight in progress.   The dispatchers then reported that there were shots fired in the area.  Officers arrived at the scene within approximately a minute and located two victims, on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Fairview Ave.   The one victim is a 29 year old male, who was shot multiple times in the torso.   He was unresponsive at the scene and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.  His injuries were severe and he was pronounced dead a short time later.   His identity is being withheld at this point, pending notification of next of kin.   The second victim is a 20 year old male, who was shot multiple times in the legs.  He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.   His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.   Both male victims are residents of Lancaster City.   

Officers immediately secured the scene and began speaking with witnesses.   Detectives responded to the scene to conduct interviews, process the crime scene and collect evidence.   Detectives are also reviewing video footage from cameras in the area.   Preliminary information indicates that there was a disturbance inside the bar, which resulted in several patrons exiting the bar.   The shooting occurred a short time later.   Detectives are working to identify all of the parties involved and anyone who may have witnesses the disturbance or the shooting.

UPDATED NEWS RELEASE INFORMATION AS OF FEBRUARY 11, 2018 -

The homicide victim from yesterday's shooting has been identified as Marcus McCain, a 29 year-old Lancaster City resident.   An autopsy will be performed by the Lancaster County Coroner's Office.   The second victim from the shooting remains hospitalized.

Detectives continued their investigation and conducted numerous interviews throughout the day and night.   Yesterday, Detectives released video surveillance footage of two subjects who had been identified as persons of interest in the shooting investigation and were seeking help from the public to identify the two males.   A short time after the release of the video footage, Detectives began receiving numerous tips from citizens, who provided helpful information about the identities of the two subjects.   These tips were a key part of the investigation.   Based on information gleaned from witness interviews and citizen tips, Detectives were able to positively identify the one person of interest as being the suspect who fired the shots outside O'Halloran's Irish Pub.   Early this morning, Detective Lieutenant Richard Mendez obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as Alexander CRUZ, a 34 year-old male.  

Detectives received information indicating that Cruz was at a residence in the Ephrata Area.   Lancaster City Police Detectives then contacted the Ephrata Police Department and the Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) and requested their assistance with locating and arresting Cruz.   Members of SERT, along with officers from the Ephrata Police Department and the Lancaster City Police Detectives converged on a residence in the 1st block of October Glory Trail, in Ephrata Township.   At approximately 5:02 am this morning, Cruz was located inside the residence and arrested without incident.   Cruz was then transported back to the Lancaster City Police station for further investigation and processing.  

Based on the investigation to this point, the following charges have been filed:

CHARGED -     Alexander CRUZ, a 34 year-old male
                         LKA - 700 block of S. Lime Street Lancaster, PA

Detective Lieutenant Richard Mendez charged Alexander Cruz with one count of Criminal Homicide (F-1), one count of Criminal Attempt at Criminal Homicide (F-1), one count of Persons Not To Possess Firearms (F-2) and one count of Firearms Not To Be Carried Without a License (F-3) before Magisterial District Judge Adam Witkonis.   Cruz will be held for arraignment.
