On February 15, 2017, at approximately 4:16 am, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Poplar Street for a report of shots fired, which was then upgraded to a shooting.
While responding to the scene, the officers were advised that the incident occurred in a nearby parking lot and that the victim had gone into a residence in the 700 block of Poplar Street. The officers located the victim inside a home in the block and determined that he had gunshot wounds to the abdomen and upper thigh.
The victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS and underwent surgery. The victim's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The victim, a 24 year-old Lancaster male, is employed as a taxi driver and reported that he was shot during a robbery attempt.
Based on preliminary information, it appears that there was a scuffle between the suspect and the victim, and that the suspect fled the scene on foot after the incident. The victim then went to a nearby residence to seek help.
The victim's cab was located in a nearby parking lot and it appears that the incident took place at that location. The suspect was described as being an unknown race male, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt or jacket. Investigators are trying to determine how the suspect initially came into contact with the victim. Investigators are currently conducting witness interviews, processing the crime scene for evidence and gathering additional information.

Detective Will Smith, of the Lancaster City Bureau of Police Auto Theft Unit, investigated this shooting incident and charged Ahlias Rivera, a 19 year old Lancaster City resident, with Criminal Attempt to Commit Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Robbery of a Motor Vehicle, Firearms not to be Carried Without a License and Firearms Discharged in the City of Lancaster before MDJ Witkonis.
At the time these charges were filed, Rivera was in Lancaster County Prison on unrelated charges. On 18 March 17 Rivera was arraigned by MDJ Chudzik and bail was set at $2,000,000.
