On June 5, 2019, at approximately 5:19 PM, officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Columbia Ave for a shooting. Officers arrived at the scene and received information about subjects who may have exchanged gunshots at the intersection of Columbia Ave and Coral Street. A 26 year-old male was found at the intersection of Lake Street and Pearl Street and was found to have multiple gunshot wounds to the arm and torso. The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Initially, the officers received information that there may have been additional shooting victims, which the officers were able to determine was inaccurate and no additional injured persons were located. At least one occupied vehicle was struck by gunfire, but the occupants were not injured.
Investigators responded to the scene and began gathering information, interviewing witnesses and talking to involved persons. One subject was brought to the police station as a possible person of interest and is being interviewed by investigators. No arrests have been made at this time. Crime scene investigators are on the scene and are processing the scene for evidence. Investigators are also reviewing video footage from around the area. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that at least two individuals at the scene had firearms and exchanged gunshots with one another. The subjects reportedly had some sort of verbal confrontation prior to the shots being fired. Officers located numerous bullet casings at the scene indicating a number of shots had been fired. At least one firearm was found at the scene.

After conducting numerous follow up investigations into the shooting that occurred June 5, 2019, Det. Eric McCrady has filed charges against one of the people involved in the incident. Adedolapo Patrick Olaniyi M/26 has been charged with (2) Counts Aggravated Assault (F2), (2) Counts Discharging a Firearm Into Occupied Structure (F3), (2) Counts Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2), Receiving Stolen Property (F3), Firearms Not To Be Carried Without a License (F3) and False Identification to Law Enforcement Authorities (M3).
The investigation revealed that Olaniyi pulled out a handgun when he was near the intersection of Columbia Ave. and Coral St. Olaniyi fired shots in the direction of (2) males that were on the opposite side of Columbia Ave. At least one of the other males was armed with a handgun and returned fire at Olaniyi.
Olaniyi fled south on Coral St. and discarded a .45 caliber handgun on the ground. That handgun was located and recovered by Officers at the scene. A check of the serial number revealed that it had been reported stolen to Police in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Olaniyi suffered injuries as a result of the returned gunfire. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and remains there in serious but stable condition.
When Investigators processed the scene for evidence, they located .45 caliber spent bullets inside a residence on the 1st blk. Coral St. north of Columbia Ave. They also found a .45 caliber spent bullet in a vehicle that had been traveling on Columbia Ave. at the time of the shooting. Those recovered projectiles matched the caliber of the handgun that Olaniyi had discarded during his flight from the scene.
Olaniyi was arraigned at the hospital on June 7, 2019. His bail was set at $1,000,000 and he will be committed to LCP upon his release from the hospital.
This investigation is not complete. Additional charges may be filed against other people involved in this incident, pending further investigation.
