On Thursday 31 August 2017 at approximately 0841 hrs. Officers from Lancaster Bureau of Police Platoon "C" responded to Hamilton Elementary School for a report of an assault that had just occurred. The initial information provided to dispatchers was that a parent was seen striking a Crossing Guard.
Off. Mazzzante met with a School Crossing guard that had injuries to the head. She was told that the victim had been struck by an unknown female assailant. The assault occurred in the area of the 1300 blk. Wabank Ave. by Charles Rd.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. In addition to the facial injuries, the victim also suffered a mild concussion. The victim was treated and later released from the hospital.
Through the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified. The suspect is Jamilia Carrasquillo F/31 1200 blk. Union St. Lancaster, PA. Det. Eric McCrady filed a Criminal Complaint against Carrasquillo charging her with (1) Count Aggravated Assault (F1) before MDj Sponaugle.
PA Crimes Code Title 18 Section 2702 (a)(2) grades any assault as Felony Aggravated Assault for certain employees. Subsection (20) Any person employed to assist or who assists any Federal, State or local law enforcement official. As a School Crossing Guard, the victim falls into that category of employment.
Carrasquillo was arrested at the Lancaster Bureau of Police station on 01 September 2017. She was later arraigned on the complaint. Bail was set at $20,000 unsecured.
The Lancaster Bureau of Police is aware that photos were shared on social media platforms that were described as persons involved in the assault. Those photos have been shared with investigators.
All persons accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
