Ephrata Police recently completed an investigation into the March 2018 planning of an assault of an Ephrata High School student. During the comprehensive investigation, police interviewed multiple students, collected evidence including a knife and notes, and forensically search cellular phones. The investigation was launched when school staff learned of a plan to assault a student and found a knife on a student. School staff immediately requested the involvement of the Ephrata Police Department School Resource Officer. Through the course of the investigation, police learned that a group of students developed plans to assault a specific victim while in a restroom at the high school.
Ephrata Police charged a 14-year-old male with Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault, Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Simple Assault and Possession of a Weapon on School Property. Dale L. Beachy, 18, of Akron, a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old female were charged with Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault and Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Simple Assault. All four are presumed innocent.
