Apartment Building Fire - Preliminary Cause Released

On the afternoon of Thursday October 25, 2018, the Ephrata Police Department assisted with the investigation of the cause of the apartment building fire at 177 Old Mill Road, Ephrata Borough.  Ephrata Police interviewed residents, 911 callers and witnesses.  A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal assisted in determining cause and origin of the fire.  The preliminary cause is listed as: Accidental – Carelessly Discarded Cigarettes.  The origin of the fire is a second story balcony.  The fire was wind swept and spread quickly across the roof line of the building.
