On 04-20-17 at approximately 0945am Ephrata Police investigated a crash involving a straight body truck hauling a load of roofing shingles and two utility poles being snapped.
The crash occurred when the truck carrying the shingles missed a turn and upon backing up struck a utility pole which then snapped at the base causing it to fall onto the roadway. The pull on the utility lines from the first utility pole caused a second utility pole to also snap at the base and be pulled down across the roadway. The driver was trapped in his truck for over 30minutes due to live utility lines and was freed after a utility crew from MedEd arrived to de-energize the lines.
The driver, Jeffrey Croyle 53 of Ephrata was unhurt and the roadway was closed for several hours due to utility repairs. Ephrata Police were assisted at the scene with Adamstown Fire Co and Fivepointville Ambulance.
