Ephrata Police were called to the first block of Hummer Road at West Main St (US 322) Ephrata Borough around 1010am Friday 3-15-19 for an overturned Horse and Carriage accident. Ephrata Police arrived and determined the Horse and Carriage was driverless and there were no injuries.
Police determined through investigation and witness information the Horse originally was tied off at the Sharp Shopper Plaza in the 1800 Block of West Main St but broke from its post tie and fled east on W. Main St (US 322) into Ephrata Borough. The horse and carriage, with no driver side swiped a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of W. Main St, continued east bound, turned onto Hummer Rd where it struck a parked SUV which caused the carriage to flip onto its side and caused the horse to go down onto the roadway.
The horse sustained cuts to his legs but was able to walk away from the scene. The carriage sustained extensive damage and was hauled away on a trailer. Both parked vehicles sustained moderate damage. Ephrata Police were assisted on scene by Ephrata Ambulance, who took care of horse until owner arrived and Lincoln Fire Police.
