Ephrata Police recently completed the investigation of a vehicle accident that occurred on April 5, 2019 at 4:24 p.m. in the 200 block of North King Street, West Cocalico Township. On June 13, 2019, Ephrata Police charged Lea M. Waltz, 34, of Stevens, with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving while Operating Privilege is Suspended and Careless Driving. Police allege that Waltz crashed the vehicle she was driving into a stone wall while she was under the influence of controlled substances including Amphetamine and Cocaine. A 3-year-old child was in the vehicle and treated for minor injuries. Waltz is presumed innocent. Waltz failed to post bail and is incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison.
