Ephrata Police recently charged Timothy L. Sweigart, 51, of Ephrata, with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Highest Rate and Accidents Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property. On January 04, 2023, at 5:41 p.m., Ephrata Police investigated a crash at the intersection of S. Reading Road and S. Academy Drive, Ephrata Borough. Ephrata Police allege that Sweigart backed his vehicle into another vehicle in traffic and drove away. The driver of the struck vehicle followed Sweigart and both pulled over. When the driver of the struck vehicle notified Sweigart of their intention to call the police, Sweigart got back into his vehicle and hit the same vehicle again as he drove away. Sweigart’s vehicle lost a tire and produced scarpe marks in the roadway as he drove away. An Ephrata Police Officer followed the scrape marks to Sweigart’s address, where he admitted to driving under the influence. Sweigart’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.22 %. Sweigart is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
