On the morning of October 3, 2018, Ephrata National Bank notified Ephrata Police detectives that ENB’s automated teller machines had been compromised over the past two weeks in a scam using multiple counterfeit credit cards. Ephrata National Bank estimated the loss at $40,000. Ephrata National Bank provided police with multiple surveillance images. Ephrata Police started surveillance of ATM’s at local branches and distributed the photographs of the suspects to other police departments with ENB branches.
On October 3, 2018 at 7:00 p.m., Manheim Township Police Department detectives noticed one of the suspects attempting to use the ATM at the ENB branch on Lititz Pike. The suspect, Gabriel Niculescu-Stoian, 41, a Romanian national, admitted his involvement in the theft scheme. Ephrata Police charged Niculescu-Stoian with Access Device Fraud. He is currently incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison after failing to post $31,000 bail. An immigration detainer was also issued.
