Ephrata Police investigated complaints of graffiti vandalism to 19 properties in a 9-block radius of downtown Ephrata Borough which occurred during the early morning hours of July 2, 2018. Most of the vandalism contained the word “SUNA”. This graffiti vandalism spree caused approximately $8,750 in damage. The graffiti was painted on residences, businesses, an overpass, utility boxes, vehicles and on the historic Ephrata caboose.
After requesting assistance from the public to identify the suspect, Ephrata Police received a tip. Police used that tip coupled with video surveillance footage to identify a suspect. On July 17, 2018, Ephrata Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of Giuseppe (Joey) A. Mazzola, 21, homeless and arrested him at a residence in Neffsville. Mazzola was charged with one felony count of Criminal Mischief for the graffiti spree. Mazzola is presumed innocent. Mazzola is incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison after failing to post bail.
