On February 3, 2018 at 2:25 a.m., Ephrata Police responded to a pedestrian struck in the 400 block of East Main Street, Ephrata Borough. Police arrived and found Abby R. Grimm, 44, of Ephrata lying in the street with a serious head injury. Through the police investigation a suspect vehicle description was developed. Ephrata Police alerted local vehicle parts stores and the public in an attempt to find the vehicle.
On February 3, 2018 at 4:00 p.m., an employee at a local parts store alerted the police that a customer just purchased a passenger side mirror for a GMC truck. Ephrata Police located the vehicle at a residence in Akron and found strands of hair still imbedded in the mirror. During an interview, the vehicle owner, Miguel A. Martin, 21, of Akron, admitted that he was driving the truck, struck the pedestrian and failed to stop.
Martin is presumed innocent. Martin was charged with Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury which is a felony due to the serious injury incurred by the victim. Martin was transported to Lancaster County Central Arraignment.
