DNA Match Results in Robbery Arrest
For nearly two years, Ephrata Police detectives have been investigating strong arm robberies that occurred at the Turkey Hill Store in the 3500 of Rothsville Road, Ephrata Township. On July 20, 2016 at 2:50 a.m., October 14, 2016 at 12:26 a.m., November 5, 2016 at 12:16 a.m., and March 1, 2017 at 4:40 a.m., a male robber demanded cash and cigarettes from the store clerk. At the scene of the March 1 robbery, an Ephrata Police Department evidence technician followed muddy shoe prints from the scene and located a blue knit hat in a grassy area near the scene. The blue knit hat was submitted to the Pennsylvania State Police Laboratory for DNA analysis.
A break in the robbery case came on March 26, 2018, when detectives received information of a positive DNA match from the laboratory. Detectives interviewed the suspect, Dale J. Kreider, 23, of Ephrata. Kreider admitted to all four robberies.
Kreider, who is incarcerated in Lancaster County Prison on unrelated charges, was charged with three counts of Robbery and one count of Criminal Attempt at Robbery. Kreider is presumed innocent.
