On Monday June 25, 2018 at approximately 8:35 a.m. the Ephrata Police were dispatched to a Robbery in Progress at the Ephrata National Bank downtown access located at 42 E. Main Street, Ephrata Borough. According to the dispatch, a man was inside and refusing to leave until the police came. Ephrata PD units arrived in short order to find the defendant, Curtis Lee Butler, 36, homeless, inside the walk in section of the bank. Butler was taken into custody and found to be in possession of cash stolen from the bank.
Butler cooperated with police and was charged with one count of Robbery. He was arraigned before MDJ Tony Russell and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. There were two female tellers in the bank at the time. No one was injured and no weapon was displayed, nor threatened.
Butler is presumed innocent.
